Environmental Initiatives

KIOXIA’s Yokkaichi Plant is one of the world’s largest semiconductor fabs.
Located in Yokkaichi, it manufactures NAND flash memories for smartphones and other digital electronic devices.
Equipped with cutting-edge production systems, Yokkaichi Plant also serves as a development site for new products and technologies. It is committed to reducing environmental impacts so as to help resolve global environmental issues facing humankind.

Accompanying the market growth, Yokkaichi Plant has continued to expand. Fab 3 commenced operation in 2005, followed by Fab 4 in 2007 and Fab 5 in 2011.
In addition, Fab 2 was reconstructed to manufacture three-dimensional (3D) NAND flash memories (called BiCS FLASH™), resuming operation in 2016. Fab 6 also commenced operation in 2018 to manufacture 3D NAND flash memories.
As befits one of the world’s leading state-of-the-art factories, Yokkaichi Plant is devoted to various environmental activities, including measures to tackle global warming, reduce the use of chemical substances, and preserve biodiversity.
